The all new Toyota Rav4 EV

Recently at the LA Autoshow the automotive world took particular notice of the all new 2012 Toyota Rav4 EV. This all-electric vehicle has the allure of Japanese reliability and craftsmanship in conjunction with the leading electric vehicle drive technology provided by Tesla motors.

Toyota is the Japanese auto maker that has long held the lion's share of the hybrid market with their popular line of sedan and SUV Synergy Drive Hybrid powered models. Toyota is looking to continue their market dominance by producing electric vehicles. Other auto manufacturers will only be releasing 35 prototypes for the 2012 model year as most car companies want to be cautious about entering the business of creating an all-electric line of vehicles.

In 2012, the new Toyota Prius line will become more of special focus for the auto maker as they release several new size versions of the very popular hybrid. With the Prius in mind, it will be interesting to see how clients react to an all electric vehicle that gets around 100 miles to a charge.

The Rav4 EV takes the popular Rav4 and puts in an electric motor that drives a beautiful balance between economy and power. The vehicle is expected to get around 100 miles per charge but some engineers feel that this new model of EV will get much better than that. Also, the new EV will weigh around 200 pounds more than the current non EV Rav but will accelerate 0-60 in around 7 seconds, nearly identical to the current gasoline engine Rav. The cargo room will stay the same in the electric model versus the gasoline model. The new EV is not expected to become a vehicle that the manufacturer plans on selling a lot. There are many different types of environmentally friendly vehicles and making sure to keep a balance between the different groups is something that the Japanese auto maker is keen on.
